New Users: Your Guide to Safe Consumption

By August 12, 2020 No Comments

Understanding the rules of safe consumption is key to an enjoyable cannabis experience. If you’re new to cannabis, you might have questions such as how much is too much? What method should I use? How much THC is right for me? We get it. It can seem daunting, especially when you’re trying something new for the first time.

All cannabis consumers have a “first-time” moment when beginning their cannabis journey. This is why we’re sharing our general tips to support your positive cannabis consumption experience.

Start low and go slow.

Not only is it a catchy phrase, but it’s a great way to remind yourself how to consume responsibly. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the psychoactive compound that gives the “high” feeling. With any cannabis product, you should start with the lowest THC potency and wait until you feel the effects. This way, you can gauge how you feel, assess how your body and mind react, and then decide whether or not you want to go for a higher THC product.

Understand product formats.

Cannabis can be consumed in multiple forms, including dried flowers, extracts, topicals, concentrates, and edibles. Depending on which format you use, the onset time between when you consume the product and feel the effects will vary. For example, suppose you’re someone who prefers to feel the effects quickly. In that case, you may consider trying dried flower, as the onset time tends to be shorter than an edible or extract. If you’re a first time user and prefer a more gradual build-up to your high experience, edibles, beverages and extracts may be a better choice.

Be aware of the effects.

When cannabis is consumed, it can affect your reaction time, memory, mood, mental health, and other cognitive functioning abilities. It’s important to become aware of the changes cannabis can have on your mind and body so you can help prepare yourself for your cannabis experience. Don’t forget H2O.

It’s common to experience dry mouth when you consumer because your mouth stops producing saliva when you’re high. Remember to stay hydrated before, during and after consuming cannabis to avoid becoming dehydrated and ensure a comfortable high.
